Overview

Keyboard Fonts Buddy restyles anything you type. It replaces the system keyboard with one that offers 50+ fonts at a single tap, plus a large library of symbols and emojis, so your text looks good in any app you paste it into.

My role

I built the app from scratch to match the client’s design pixel for pixel, including full iPad support and a subscription-based in-app purchase model.

Hardest part

Styled text has to survive being pasted into apps that know nothing about your keyboard, and a custom keyboard extension runs on a fraction of a normal app’s memory before iOS kills it. Rendering 50+ live previews of whatever the user is typing, inside that budget, without dropping frames, was the real constraint.

Each “font” is a character mapping rather than a real typeface, so the output travels anywhere as plain text, and previews are generated lazily and reused rather than all held in memory at once.

Architecture & stack

Swift and SwiftUI, built as an iOS app plus a custom keyboard extension, universal across iPhone and iPad, with StoreKit powering the subscription.
